Our Forging
A century of hot-forging expertise combined with the latest technology to produce parts that demand high precision and strength.
Forging — “shaping by striking”
Forging makes metal stronger by striking (forging) it. Today, various forged products are made by heating metal in a furnace and applying pressure with hammers and presses.
Ogawa Tekko traces its origins to a swordsmith who served a Sengoku-era warlord, producing swords, matchlock guns, farm tools, and implements under the “Tobee” name. Incorporated from 1915, we have supported Japan's heavy industry, and today apply our hot-forging technology to parts for passenger cars, trucks, and construction machinery.

Forging technology
We use two striking methods — air drop hammer and forging press — chosen by product and lot size.

Rotary furnace
Steel cut to size in-house is heated in a rotary furnace to make it easier to deform and work.
Air drop hammer
The heated steel is placed on the die and struck with an accelerated hammer to the target shape. The high force handles complex shapes, and skilled smiths vary the number, rhythm, and strength of blows.
Trimming
Striking fills the die with steel; excess steel that overflows the die is cut off with a press.

Forging press
Steel heated in an electric furnace is clamped in the die and shaped under high hydraulic pressure. Compared with hammer forging, it suits higher-volume production.

Die-making technology
A die shapes heated material as intended; it is mounted on the hammer or press and clamps the material between upper and lower halves.
From the drawings you provide, we create 3D CAD data and die-making data, then machine forging dies fully automatically with machining centers and electrical discharge machines. The finished die is then hand-finished by skilled engineers.
Steels we can forge
- Rolled steel for general structures (SS)
- Carbon steel for machine structures (S-C)
- Chromium-molybdenum steel (SCM)
- High-carbon chromium bearing steel (SUJ)
- Stainless steel (SUS)
- Other steels
